The crew: Mexico

RA Beattie. Guide, Filmmaker. My father has ben taking me to Ascension Bay and the surrounding area for many years. We began fishing this area when I was very young, usually driving the coast in search of flats to wade. We were self taught, usually learning through error, but eventually became somewhat confident on the flats and managed to catch a few fish. As I grew older the all-inclusive resorts began to move down the coast from Cancun, eventually overtaking all of the fishing spots we grew to love, pushing us into Ascension Bay. It was hard to watch. We would fish a great secluded bay one year, then return to find that it had been turned into a water park or "swim with the dolphins" tourist trap. But unfortunately there was little we could do.

After loosing all of the places we loved, we spent a lot of time fishing at lodges in the area. I finally hit my first grand slam when I was a senior in high school and, coupled with the thrill of being able to drinking tequila legally, fell completely in love with the area. I have not been back in many years and am really looking forward to the opportunity to fish these waters again! I would also like to thank the Winston crew and the judges for hosting the film festival that ultimately gave us this opportunity. Shannon Carroll With his rugged good looks (he actually worte this! but he also has two girls names so is probably just compensating), propensity to throw tight
loops, and above all, knack for landing gigantic fish,
Shannon will be bringing a lot to the table for this
trip. Not only will he be acting as crane-man #7, he
will also be the official translator for the crew. When not tagging along on Beattie Outdoor Productions
trips, Shannon works as a guide for Emerald Water
Anglers, in Seattle, WA. And, although his passion for
steelhead and trout runs deep, he is excited about the
opportunity to chase bones and permit on the flats of Mexico!
