We are currently funding a Marble Trout tagging program that was developed and implemented by the FIsheries Research Institute of Slovenia. In the fall of 2007 the project began when we (Fisheries Research Institute Staff, Stan Smith USGS, Fishery Biologist (ret). , and RA Beattie) measured, tagged, and release two hundred juvenile Marble Trout into a tributary of the Soca River that was utterly devastated by a massive landslide that destroyed the native population. The tagged fish will be caught through electro-fishing over the next few years and monitored. The Fisheries Research Institute will record growth rates, distribution and population densities. Besides rehabilitating the devastated tributary the tagging program will give great insight into Marble Trout movements and growth. This web page will evolve with the program, eventually hosting stats on the development of the Marble Trout in this program. Fisheries Research Institute of Slovenia |
